Lepanto man arrested for growing marijuana in garden
Ronald J. Sparling, 60, of 204 Neely St. in Lepanto was arrested June 5 after police found marijuana in his garden.
According to Captain David Layman, the arrest followed an investigation into information that Sparling was allegedly growing marijuana in his garden. Officers went to the residence and found suspected marijuana growing among the tomatoes.
"The plant had been affixed so it would grow along the ground as opposed to growing upwards," Captain Layman said.
A search of Sparling's residence revealed a small bag of marijuana, scales and smoking pipes.
Sparling was charged with manufacture of a controlled substance (marijuana), possession of instrument of crime, and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance (marijuana).
District Judge Ron Hunter set the bond at $2,500. Court date is set for July 31.
