Christine Broderick "Jill" Johansen
Christine Broderick "Jill" Johansen fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012. She was the wife of the late Paul E. Johansen; daughter of the late Vera and the late Arthur L. Broderick, and sister of the late Philip and the late John "Jack" Broderick, her twin.
She is survived by all three of her children, Paul (Glenda) Johansen, Jr. of Jonesboro, Charlotte (Alan) Hamilton of St. Louis and Christine (Robert) O'Brien of Racine, Wis.; five grandchildren, Steven Johansen, Guiglielmo "Bill" (Julie Gillen) Franco, Kevin (Corinne) O'Brien, and Elise (Matthew) Lojeski; four great-grandchildren, Michele "Michael" Franco, Camilla O'Brien, Matthew Lojeski, Jr. and Mason Lojeski; many nieces and nephews, and by her friend, Shirley Bell, who took such good care of her.
Jill was born in 1915 and attended John Burroughs School, in addition to the University of Arizona. She was very artistic as well as very competitive which showed in her love of bridge and golf. For many years, she was the winner of the women's golf championships at Bellerive Country Club. She also loved the precision of numbers and was the treasurer of her investment club for nearly 50 years. Jill was the granddaughter of one of the founders and the first president of Broderick and Bascom Wire Rope Company which was founded in 1876, the same year that her husband's grandfather founded Johansen Brothers Shoe Company. She moved to the Gatesworth in 2001 and for the last year resided at McKnight Place Extended Care. Her family is very grateful for all of the help she received from the caring staff at McKnight Place.
The funeral Mass was celebrated at the Church of Annunziata in Ladue Aug. 17, 2012. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery.
