Michael Wayne Holmes
HARRISBURG - Mr. Michael Wayne Holmes, of Harrisburg, Ark., departed this life Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at the St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro at the age of 34. He was born Sept. 20, 1977 in Cleveland, Miss., the son of Rickey Lynn Holmes and Connie Willis Holmes. Michael was a 1995 graduate of Harrisburg High School where he was very involved with the sports program. He was the manager of the football team and active with the FFA. He was the assistant coach for the girls volleyball team. He was a member of the Assembly of God church. Michael was a dispatcher for the Trumann Police and Fire Departments for 11 years.
He was preceded in death by his biological father, Rickey Lynn Holmes; grandfathers, Andy Marple and W.J. Willis; grandmothers, Lorene Holmes and Lucille Norris; uncle, Alan Marple, and aunt Holly Willis.
He is survived by his daughter, Gracie Nevaeh Holmes; his mother, Connie Marple; his father, Ronnie Marple, all of Harrisburg; his brother, Richard Holmes of Heber Springs, Ark.; his grandmothers, Shirley Willis of Wynne and Barbara Marple of Harrisburg.
Services were 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at the Gregg-Weston Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Scroggs officiating.
Those serving as pallbearers were Assistant Chief Gary Henry, Captain Richard Mabe, Coach Joe Fisher, Robert Baxter, Dale Parker and Shannon Hensley. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Trumann Police and Fire Departments, Tommy McMasters and Harvey Hamby.
Interment followed in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Gregg-Weston Funeral Home of Harrisburg.
