Wildcats fall to Pirates in make-up outing

Trumann travelled to Gosnell this past Monday to play their game that was postponed due to weather this past Friday. The Wildcats couldn't take advantage of numerous Gosnell turnovers losing 40-14.

Trumann recovered a Gosnell fumble on the first play of the game to give the Wildcats the ball on the Pirates 47-yard line with 11:36 left in the opening quarter. Trumann drove the ball down the Pirates 25-yard where they turned the ball over on downs with 7:20 left in the quarter. Trumann forced Gosnell to punt on their next possession taking over at their own 18-yard line with 4:38 left in the first quarter. The first quarter ended the score at 0-0.

Trumann turned the ball over on downs as the fourth down pass fell incomplete giving Gosnell the ball on their own 35-yard line with 11:46 to go to start the second quarter. Gosnell's running back again fumbles on their first play of the quarter with Nate Maxwell falling on the loose ball on the Gosnell 40-yard line with 11:40 left in the half. Gosnell forced the Wildcats to punt on their next series only to see Cameron Wright intercept a pass and deep in Wildcat territory to give Trumann the ball with 5:22 left in the quarter. Again Trumann is forced to punt the ball away. Justin Liles jumped on a loose ball off a Gosnell option play to give Trumann the ball at midfield with 3:30 left before half. Trumann was forced to punt giving the ball back to the Pirates with 2:05 left in the quarter. Gosnell drove the ball down and scored on a seven-yard pass play with 17 seconds before halftime. The point after sent Gosnell into the half with a 7-0 lead.

Gosnell stops Trumann on fourth down of the Wildcats opening drive of the third quarter and takes over at the Wildcats 42-yard line with 10:26 left in the quarter. After a five-yard penalty the Pirates running back scored on a 47-yard run. The extra-point made the score 14-0 with 10:13 left to play in the third quarter. Trumann looked to have gotten on board as Wright returned the ensuing kick-off 80 yards for a score only to have it called back due to a penalty setting Trumann up with the ball on the Gosnell 42-yard line 10:01 left. A.J. Winningham finished Trumann's drive with a six-yard touchdown run before passing to Jay-Ryan Woods for the two-point conversion to make the score 14-8 with 5:31 left in the third. Gosnell answered Trumann's score by returning the kick-off 75 yards for a touchdown. The point-after made the score 21-8 with 5:16 left to play in the quarter. Gosnell forced Truman to punt on their next possession before scoring on a 69-yard run with 2:47 left in the third. The point-after was no good leaving the score 27-8 Gosnell.

Josh Evans scored Trumann's next points taking a short pass and going 40 yards for the touchdown. The two-point try was no good leaving the score 27-14 with 11:46 left in the fourth. Gosnell stretched the lead with a 33-yard touchdown run with 6:09 left in game. The point-after was good making the score 34-14 Pirates. The Pirates intercepted a Winningham pass and returned it for a touchdown with 5:37 left to play. The point-after was no good making the score 40-14 which ended up being the final score.

Winningham led the Wildcats in rushing with 67 yards and a touchdown while throwing for 104 yards and a touchdown. Cameron Jones finished with 18 yards on the ground. Evans had 47 yards receiving with a touchdown. Maxwell had 32 yards receiving with Woods adding 19 yards receiving.

Willie Moore, Heston O'Brien and Evans each had six tackles with Wright adding five and an interception. Moore, Cain White, Maxwell and Justin Liles all recovered a fumble.
