Elizabeth Mae "Bettie" Knapp Simpson
PAYNEWAY - Elizabeth Mae "Bettie" Knapp Simpson, 89, of Payneway passed away Oct. 18, 2012, at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. She was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Russell Springs, Kan., to Gilbert and Millie Kendall Knapp. Mrs. Simpson was a member of Corner's Chapel Baptist Church for 67 years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Arthur M. Simpson, Sr., her parents, one sister and two brothers.
She is survived by four daughters, Donna Sanders and Dianne Covington, both of Jonesboro, Darlene (Larry) Moore and Daphne Bell, both of Blytheville; one son, Arthur M. (Tootie) Simpson, Jr. of Eads, Tenn.; one sister, Nina Jacobs of Geronimo, Okla.; three brothers, Glenn (Cossetta) Knapp of Vasalia, Calif., Lee Knapp of Magnus, Ark., and Kenneth (Maxine) Knapp of Tronz, Calif.; Six grandchildren, Deanna (Brad) Edgar of Jonesboro, Charlie Covington of West Memphis, Elizabeth Bell of Blytheville, Michael Bell of Little Rock, T.J. (Courtney) Williams of Jackson, Miss., and Leigh Ann Williams of Atlanta, Ga.; six great grandchildren, Grace Covington, Drew Covington and Evelyn Edgar, all of Jonesboro, Lawson, Cannon and Hadley Williams of Jackson, Miss.; a special niece, Charlsie (Darrell) Hardin of Payneway, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Saturday, Oct. 20, from 6-9 p.m. at Corner's Chapel Baptist Church in Payneway. A second visitation was held Sunday October 21, 2012 from 10-12 p.m. at the church and funeral services followed at 2 p.m. with Reverends Larry Loggins and Glen Hurst officiating.
Pallbearers were Arthur M. Simpson, Jr., Charlie Covington, Michael Bell, Larry Moore, T.J. Williams and Paul Bingham. Honorary pallbearers were Brad Edgar, Darrell Hardin, Bud Bingham, Bobby Smith, Glenn Gillis, Ewell Watson and Ray Cook.
Burial followed in Marked Tree Cemetery. Murphy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
