Roundup: Area teams in hoops action
Marked Tree's Lady Indians used the Perry connection to get by Riverside 55-52 in senior girls basketball action in Lake City last Thursday. The Lady Indians travelled to Monette this past Monday and was handed a 65-53 by the BIC Lady Mustangs.
In the Riverside game, Jay Perry led the way for the Lady Indians (7-2, 4-1 2A-3) scoring 22 points, Poohnu Perry followed with 18 and Lexi Perry netted 11 points to go with her 11 rebounds.
Against BIC, Poohnu Perry had a game high 31 points for the Lady Indians. Jay Perry chipped in 10 for Marked Tree.
Hannah Willard led three players in double figures as the Lady Yellowjackets downed Ridgefield Christian in a 1A-3 senior girls conference game last Thursday in Jonesboro. The Lady 'Jackets hit the road this past Monday as they visited Black Rock and came away with a 72-31 win.
Against RCS, Willard scored 14 points, Sarah Sharp added 13 and Katie Ferguson pitched in 11 points for Bay.
Bay's junior girls won 38-1.
Shelby Lynch scored 17 points to lead Bay in the win over Black Rock. Willard and Ferguson both added 16 for Lady 'Jackets.
The Junior Lady Yellowjackets won 33-23.
EPC's Lady Warriors hosted the Lady Cougars from Rector this past Monday night.
Teria Young led the way for EPC with 19 points. The Lady Warriors also got 12 points each from Alicia Ross and Synteria Ward.
Rector won the junior high game 45-29.
Kylie Howton and Kellie Simpson combined for 34 points as the Harrisburg Lady Hornets beat Piggott 59-53 in senior girls basketball action this past Monday in Harrisburg.
Howton and Simpson both had 17 points to lead Harrisburg.
The Junior Lady Hornets won their game 33-31.
Trumann's Megan McGowan scored 15 points as the Lady Wildcats travelled to Highland and came away with a 53-51 this past Tuesday in senior girls basketball.
Marked Tree travelled to Lake City for senior boys hard court action this past Friday and was handed a 71-55 by Riverside
Allen Buchanan led the Indians with 26 points while Darius Ivy added 16 for Marked Tree.
The Junior Rebels took the junior high gave over Marked Tree 44-21.
The Bay Yellowjackets remained unbeaten in league with a 78-26 win over Black Rock this past Friday in Bay.
Dylan Loved scored 12 points for Bay (16-3, 3-0 2A-3) with Mark Taggart grabbing 14 rebounds for the 'Jackets.
Bay's Junior Yellowjackets got 22 points and 20 rebounds from Johnathan Crain to run their record to 17-1 with a 56-24 victory.
Weiner hosted CRA this past Monday night in high school boys basketball action. The Cardinals posted a 70-50 win.
Alex Nicholson led Weiner with 16 points as Logan Brayed added 15 for the Cardinals.
Weiner won the junior high game 46-23.
Harrisburg's Hornets travelled to Tuckerman for a senior boys contest this past Monday. The home team would not be good hosts as they downed Harrisburg 73-60.
Ayson Lamb led the Hornets in scoring with 17 points followed by Nathan Neal with 16 for Harrisburg.
The Junior Hornets lost 46-38.
Trumann improved to 2-0 in conference play as the Wildcats forced overtime on a Cameron Jones basket before outscoring Westside 10-4 in overtime to take a 68-62 victory.
A.J. Winningham led the Wildcats with 20 points. Grayson Dye had 18 points, Nathan Maxwell had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Jones finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Westside won the junior high contest 46-23.
EPC used 26 points from Mookie Sturdivant and 15 from Malik Monk to beat Rector this past Tuesday to even their record at 4-4 and remain unbeaten in 2A-3 conference play at 4-0.
The Junior Warriors won 46-40 in the junior high game.
