Swearing in ceremony is Jan. 1

Sunday, December 30, 2012

The tenth semi-annual swearing in ceremony for all Poinsett County elected officials will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, at the Poinsett County Courthouse.

All officials, from state to city level, as well as their families and the general public are invited to attend the ceremony.

According to County Assessor Johnny Rye, Jr., Poinsett County is unique in its administering of a normal oath of office. "All officials, ranging from the state level to the city level, are invited to attend. The Honorable Circuit Judge Larry Boling will administer the oath," Rye said.

Rye added that Boling also usually gives a lecture on the importance of the public trust and explains that the Arkansas Constitution is constructed similarly to the U.S. Constitution.

Rye said the county's current swearing-in ceremony was first performed in 1995 when Judge Van Ausdall administrated the oaths of office.
