Marked Tree High School's Community Service Club is looking to help others for their Spring Break. Club Sponsor Anna Trego said the club hopes to volunteer in Joplin, Mo., the first weekend of Spring Break.
"We'll be working with Rebuild Joplin to rebuild homes that were destroyed during the tornado in 2011," Trego said.
Trego said students in the club had talked about wanting to do a Spring Break trip.
"This was a fairly recent disaster," she said. "It seemed like a good fit. They're still trying to fix what happened two years ago."
Trego said she wanted to expose the students to a disaster so they can see that this sort of thing happens and how it affects people, but she also wanted to show them they can do something to help.
In addition to the upcoming trip, the Community Service Club has been active at Three Rivers Healthcare and Rehabilitation where they've given out Christmas cards and Valentines and participated in bingo and exercise classes. The club also does an annual food and jacket drive. This year, they had seven massive boxes of food that were distributed to different families around Marked Tree.
