Basketball roundup: Area schools' results

Trumann's Lady Wildcats hosted the Lady Warriors of Westside in a 4A-3 conference game last Thursday at Wildcat Gym. Westside jumped out to a 12 point first period lead and coasted to a 48-33 win. Kelly Guthrie led Trumann in scoring with nine points.

Trumann won the junior high game 37-32.

The EPC Lady Warriors got 29 points from Alicia Ross but it wasn't enough as the Lady Rebels from Riverside posted a 58-51 2A-3 victory last Thursday in Lepanto. Teria Young added 15 points for EPC (9-11, 8-8).

Riverside also won the junior girls' game 31-26.

Weiner's Lady Cardinals stepped outside conference play this past Monday to play the Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds in Weiner. The visiting Lady Greyhounds came away with a 59-31 victory. Kaci Mack led the Lady Cardinals with nine points.

Bay (19-8) had three score in double figures led by Hannah Willard with 19 points as the Lady Yellowjackets beat ICC 59-46 in Brockwell this past Tuesday. Katie Ferguson added 14 points and Sara Sharp 11 points for Bay.


Marked Tree had four players in double figures led by Darius Ivy's 28 points as the Indians down Augusta in 2A-3 conference play last Thursday in Marked Tree. Allen Buchanan added 17 points as Daniel Rucker and Terry Carter scored 12 and 11 points respectively.

Augusta won the junior high contest 47-43.

Bay hit the 30 win mark last Thursday as they beat Kipp Delta 70-60 at Bay. Tyson Oliver led the Yellowjackets with 20 points. Dylan Loven netted 18 points and Matt Holt added 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.

The Junior Yellowjackets improved to 29-1 with a 46-26 victory. Taylor Layne scored 20 points for Bay as Jonathan Crain and Dustin Utley added 13 and 10 points respectively.

Mookie Sturdivant and Malik Monk each scored 21 points as the EPC Warriors claimed a 68-38 2A-3 conference win over Riverside this past Friday in Lepanto. T.J. Young chipped in 14 points for the Warriors.

Riverside won the junior high game 40-37.

Weiner played Marmaduke this past Monday in boys' high school basketball action at Weiner and was handed a 65-62 loss. Alex Jones led four players in double figures with 14 points. Alex Nicholson added 12 points, Logan Bray 11 points and Brad Craft 10 points for the Cardinals.

Bay (31-4) got a huge night from Tyson Oliver as the Yellowjackets beat ICC 82-46 this past Tuesday night in Brockwell. Oliver finished with 25 points and 17 rebounds on the night. Bay also got 19 points from Zack Johnson and Dylan Loven chipped in 14 points.
