Area basketball roundup: District tournaments in full-swing
Second-seeded Weiner posted a 68-53 win over Black Rock in the opening round of the 1A-3 East district tournament this past Monday being held in Bay. Brad Craft led four Cardinals in double digits with 15 points. Alex Jones scored 13 points, Drake Melton added 11 points and Alex Nicholson finished with 10 points.
Top-seeded Bay and Weiner both punched their tickets this past Tuesday for the finals of the 1A-3 East district tournament being held in Bay. Bay downed Crowley's Ridge 64-44 behind Dylan Loven's 30 points. Kylor Skaggs and Zack Johnson both added 11 points for the Yellowjackets.
Weiner got 16 points from Drake Melton as the Cardinals won 45-42 over Ridgefield Christian.
Eighth-seeded Harrisburg was beaten by fifth-seeded Piggott 67-53 this past Monday in the 3A-3 district tournament being held in Hoxie. Kyle Mitchell scored 15 points for the Hornets and Jerrad Edwards pitched in 10 for Harrisburg.
Seventh-seeded Trumann fell to third-seeded Pocahontas 64-34 this past Tuesday in the 4A-3 district tournament being held in Brookland. A.J. Winningham led Trumann with 14 points and Cameron Jones netted 12 for the Wildcats.
Seventh-seeded Harrisburg got 20 points from Keely Edwards as the Lady Hornets downed sixth-seeded Piggott 58-52 this past Monday night in the 3A-3 district tournament being held in Hoxie. Kellie Simpson scored 19 points and Kiley Howton added 10 points for Harrisburg.
The fifth-seeded EPC Lady Warriors used 30 points from Teria Young and 19 points from Alicia Ross as they posted a 66-35 over Augusta this past Tuesday night in the 2A-3 district tournament being held in Marmaduke. The Lady Warriors advance to play Riverside Wednesday night.
