Lady Cats fall to Riverside
Trumann hosted Riverside in high school softball action last Friday. The Lady Wildcats led the entire game before the Lady Rebels plated three in the top of the seventh and held on for an 8-7 win.
Trumann (1-0-1) scored three runs in the bottom half of the first. Kelly Guthrie walked before stealing second. Hannah Walters drew a walk and when she rounded first and headed to second to induce a rundown, Guthrie scored the first run of the game. Macy Hicks blasted a two-run home run to make it 3-0 Trumann.
Guthrie walked in the bottom of third and went to second on a passed ball. Walters doubled to right center to plate Guthrie for a 4-0 Trumann lead after three.
Riverside scored their first run in the top of the fifth as Trumann responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Taelor Gartman had a bunt single before Sammie Jo Williams reached on an error. Amber Kent came on to pinch run for Williams. Walters forced a walked to load the bases. Hicks hit a fly that was misplayed by the center fielder allowing Gartman and Kent to score. Julia Jones drove in Kierra Corter with a sacrifice fly to give Trumann a 7-1 lead after five.
Walters had a little control problem in the top of sixth that allowed Riverside to get back in the game. A hit batsman, three walks, a hit and two wild pitches left the score 7-5 after the top half of the sixth inning.
Riverside struck again in the top of the seventh. The Lady Rebels used three hits and two walks to plate three runs and take an 8-7 lead. Trumann went three up and three down to end the game.
Gartman had two of Trumann's four hits on the day with Walters and Hicks having a hit apiece. Hicks had two rbis and Guthrie scored two runs for the Lady Cats.
Walters went all seven innings in the loss giving up eight runs on six hits. She walked nine batters while hitting two batters and striking out five.
