Local softball round up
Peyton Carter pitched a four hit shutout as the Marked Tree Lady Indians (13-2, 7-1 2A-3) downed Marmaduke 9-0 last Friday in girls high school softball.
Carter struck out 11 batters and walked one. Carter also helped her own cause at the plate collecting three hits and driving in a run.
Kelsey Pitts had two hits and four RBIs with Shelbi Knight driving in two runs on two hits and Holly Smith had a hit and two RBIs.
Marked Tree (14-2, 8-1) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh innings to post a 2-1 victory over Rector this past Monday in Marked Tree.
Breanna Francis singled and moved to third on a double by Madison Carroll. Francis came in with the game winner on a single by Jay Perry.
Carter got the win giving up one run on five hits. Carter walked two and struck out 10.
Harrisburg split a doubleheader with Piggott this past Tuesday in softball action at Piggott. Harrisburg won the opener 25-6 and lost a close one 5-4 in the second game.
Allie Lawson collected the win in game one as Katie Vincent had five hits for the Lady Hornets.
Marked Tree improved to 15-2 overall and 9-1 in conference play with a 20-7 win over McCrory this past Tuesday at McCrory.
Kelsey Pitts and Peyton Carter each had four hits on the day as Poohnu Perry and Shelbi Knight each had three hits. Knight and Carter both had four RBIs, Pitts had two RBIs and Poohnu Perry had one RBI.
Carter went the distance for the win. She gave up seven runs and seven hits while striking out 11 and walking three.
