Trumann athletic director cited for failure to report child abuse
Trumann Schools Athletic Director Jim Montgomery, formerly Trumann High School principal, has been cited with a misdemeanor for failure to report child abuse in the case of Danny Akers, a former THS teacher who is charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old student. The student has given birth to a child, but officials have not said if DNA tests confirm whether or not the child is Akers'.
Montgomery was Akers' supervisor at the time the alleged assault took place. Montgomery could face up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine for not reporting to the child abuse hotline after he learned Akers may have had an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Montgomery will appear in Trumann District Court on June 11.
