Area teams fall at state tourneys
Baseball and softball seasons came to a close for the Marked Tree and Harrisburg teams in their respective state tournaments last week.
Marked Tree (14-13) lost 6-1 to to Palestine-Wheatley in the Class 2A state tournament being held at Parkers Chapel. Brody McCrary and Connor Fields led the Indians at the plate with two hits each on the day. Dylan Hunt and Bailey Gilbert each had a hit. Hunt scored the Indians only run.
McCrary took the loss pitching six innings while giving up six runs on six hits. He walked four and struck out 11.
The Lady Indians (24-6) beat Des Arc 12-2 in their opening round game of the Class 2A state tournament being held at Norphlet. Peyton Carter and Poohnu Perry both had three hits on the day. Jay Perry had two hits as Breanna Francis, Kelsey Pitts and Abby Beck each had a hit. Carter, Francis and Jay Perry each drove in two runs as Poohnu Perry, Beck and Pitts each drove in a run.
Carter got the win giving up two runs on three hits while walking one and striking out eight.
The Lady Indians fell to Spring Hill 3-0 the next day to end their season. Carter struck out 11 batters in the loss.
The Harrisburg Hornets lost their opening round game 10-0 to Mayflower at the Class 3A state tournament held at Searcy.
Harrisburg's Lady Hornets fell 14-4 to Bald Knob in the opening round of the Class 3A state softball tournament being held at Pine Bluff.
