Thursday, August 15, 2013

The race for mayor of Marked Tree is not over yet. Over 600 residents went to the polls to choose between four candidates.

According to County Clerk Fonda Condra, Mary Ann Arnold received 44% of the vote with 296 votes. Dixon Chandler received 250 votes, 37%. Cleo Johnson, Jr., received 83 votes, 12%. And James Williams received 38 votes, 6%.

A runoff will be held between Arnold and Chandler on Sept. 3. The two will be running to fill the vacancy created when Mayor Wayne Nichols passed away in May. Alderman Michael Scott is currently serving as Interim Mayor.
