Late interception seals ASU victory
Arkansas State and Troy slugged it out all night as both offenses rolled but it was a big defensive play that gave the Red Wolves and wild 41-34 win over the Troy Trojans at Liberty Bank Stadium this past Saturday night.
ASU jumped out to a 13-0 lead as Adam Kennedy hit Allen Muse with a 55-yard touchdown pass with 7:50 left in the first quarter. Brian Davis' point after was good. David Oku scored from two yards out to make it 13-0 with 6:31 left. The Red Wolves tried for a two-point conversion but the pass fell incomplete. Jordan Chunn got Troy on the board with a one-yard run with 4:38 left in the quarter. Will Scott hit the point after to make it 13-7. Oku scored his second touchdown on a three-yard run with 2:08 left. Davis was again good on the point after making it 20-7.
The second quarter was all Troy as the Trojans scored twice to take 21-20 halftime lead. Deon Anthony scored on a two-yard run with 14:47 left before Corey Robinson hit Eric Thomas with a three-yard touchdown pass with six seconds left before half. Scott was good on both extra points.
Michael Gordon sandwiched 11-yard and 64-yard scoring runs around a Robinson to Bryan Holmes 58-yard scoring strike to make it 34-28 ASU after three quarters of play.
Troy tied the game up with 12:18 to play as Anthony hit Chandler Worthy with a 58-yard touchdown pass. Scott missed the extra-point to leave the game at 34-34. The Red Wolves took the lead when Fredi Knighten scored on a 13-yard run with 3:56 left. Davis was goon on the point after to make it 41-34. Troy got the ball and drove down the field only to have Frankie Jackson intercept a Robinson pass at the six-yard with about a minute left in the game.
Gordon led the Red Wolves ground game with 115 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns. Oku picked up 74 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns. Kennedy completed 20 of his 34 pass attempts for 282 yards and one touchdown. Allen Muse hauled in six passes for 158 yards and a touchdown. Julian Jones grabbed eight passes for 65 yards.
