Hornets swatted on homecoming

It was homecoming night in Harrisburg as the Hornets hosted the Osceola Seminoles in a 3A-3 conference game. The game was close in the first half, but Osceola's speed wore the Hornets down as they went on to a 42-18 win.

Harrisburg got the ball to open the game and couldn't do much as they were forced to punt with 10:38 left in the quarter. Osceola took possession and drove down into Harrisburg territory before turning the ball over on downs at the 31-yard line. The Hornets gave it right back as a bad hand-off put the ball on the ground as Osceola recovered. Osceola capitalized as Tevin James took the hand-off and went 28 yards on the next play to give the Seminoles a 6-0 lead. Arizona Sharp blocked the point-after to leave it 6-0 with 6:13 to play. Harrisburg tied the score about two minutes later as Connor Haag hit Ayson Lamb on a slant play that wen 44 yards for the score. The point-after was no good making it a 6-6 game.

The teams exchanged punts to open the second quarter before Osceola struck aging on 21-yard touchdown pass from Harold Weeden to Shadondra Black to make it 12-6. The two-point conversion was good to make it 14-6 Seminoles. Cade Condra intercepted a Weeden pass and returned it to the Osceola 37-yard line for Harrisburg with 6:16 left before half. The Hornets drove down and scored on a two-yard run from Haag to make it 14-12 with 3:06 to play. The two-point conversion pass was no good. Osceola found the end zone again with 45 seconds left in the half as Quintavious Hendrix rushed in from 11-yards out to make it 20-12. The two-point conversion run was good making it 22-12.

Harrisburg drove down into Osceola territory before James intercepted a Haag pass to end the scoring threat.

Osceola received the kickoff to start the second half and used a combination of runs and passes to move down field and scored on a 21-yard pass from Weeden to Tristan Vaughn with 8:50 left in the quarter. The two-point conversion was no good leaving the score 28-12 Osceola. The teams traded possessions before the Hornets Brett Horsley recovered a James fumble on the Hornets 41-yard line with 3:16 left. Harrisburg put together a scoring drive that ended in Haag's five-yard touchdown run with :31 left in the third quarter. The two-point pass play was incomplete leaving the score 28-18 Seminoles.

The Seminoles struck quick as Weeden connected with James on the first play of the fourth quarter for a 48-yard touchdown pass with 11:54 to play. The two-point conversion pass to James was good to make the score 42-18 Osceola. The defenses were strong over the next 10 minutes of the game as the team took turns trading possessions. Osceola got on the board one final time with 52 second left as Brendon Parker scored on a 29-yard run rush to push the score to 42-18. The two-point conversion was no good to set the final score.

"We were kind of puzzled the first half," Harrisburg coach Keith Davis said of his team. "We played better the second half. The kids played hard and I'm proud of them," Davis said.

Haag led the Hornets offense with 124 yards rushing and two touchdowns to go along with 151 yards passing and a touchdown. Lamb had five catches for 90 yards and a touchdown.
