A convicted felon shot by a Trumann police officer faces multiple felony charges in connection with the Oct. 22 incident. Jacob A. Brown, 22, of Trumann was arrested on suspicion of and charged with four counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by certain persons, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing, simultaneous possession drugs and firearms, and criminal trespass according to Trumann Police Chief Chad Henson.

In October Brown was shot by Trumann Police officer Lt. Gary Henry when Brown refused to drop his weapon when ordered to do so. Following the investigation by Arkansas State Police Scott Ellington, Second Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney ruled the shooting was justified when the investigation determined the Trumann officers were confronted with circumstances justifying the use of deadly force.

Trumann Police officer Det. Jared Cook and Arkansas Parole/Probation Agent Ryan Skelton initially located Brown when conducting a home visit where they observed an open Facebook page showing contact with Brown. The resident of the home got Brown on speakerphone where the officers could hear the conversation. "After being alerted that officers were looking for him Brown replied 'I've got a 9mm, so ......them.' Brown then hung up the phone," said Ellington in a report. The two officers then went to the location where they thought Brown might be. After being alerted by a neighbor Brown was located and a foot pursuit followed. Lt. Gary Henry, Lt. Lenny Becker, and Det. Jerry Lindsey responded to the request for backup from the officers. When confronted by officers Brown refused to drop his gun when ordered to do so by the officers. Instead he brought the gun up toward the offers according to the report from Ellington's office. When he refused to comply Brown was shot and wounded by Lt. Gary Henry.

Henson said Lt. Henry has been placed back on active duty.

Brown is also facing a felony failure to comply. According to the Poinsett County Sheriff's Office criminal investigation division Brown is a level 2 sex offender. He initially reported to the PCSO in May but missed his six month verification meeting resulting in the felony warrant.

At an arraignment Nov. 6 District Judge Ron Hunter set a $250,000 cash bond after finding sufficient evidence to charge Brown. A Dec. 20 court date is set at Poinsett County Circuit Court.

Brown is currently in the Arkansas Department of Correction. He was returned to ADC Nov. 7 for parole violation.
