Lady Hornets downed in Pre-Holiday finals
Harrisburg had three players score in double figures but it wasn't enough as the Brookland Lady Bearcats posted a 61-47 to win the Pre-Holiday tournament at Bay.
Peyton Craft gave the Lady Hornets their first two leads of the game with a basket less than a minute in and another score with 5:25 left making it 4-2 Lady Hornets. Makaleigh Riddle's three from the top of the key gave Harrisburg a 7-6 lead before Craft tied the game at eight hitting one of two free throws with 3:17 left. Kaci Mack hit one of two free shots before Brookland scored the last six points of the period to go up 14-9 after one period of play.
Keely Edwards made driving layup for Harrisburg to start the second period and Craft scored inside to cut the lead to 14-13. Brookland responded with a 7-0 run to make the score 21-13 Lady Bearcats. Riddle hit back to back three-pointers around a Brookland basket to make the score 23-19 with 1:49 left. Craft hit one of two free throws and Edwards got inside for a score to cut the Brookland lead to 23-22 with 1:07 before half. Harrisburg had a chance to tie or go to half with the lead but Lexi Smith missed the front end of a one and one with 40 seconds left. The score remained 23-22 Brookland at the half.
Riddle and Craft scored back to back buckets to give the Lady Hornets a 26-23 lead less than a minute into the third period. Riddle hit another three-pointer from the top of the key and Craft got a bucket down low to make it 31-27 Harrisburg with 5:49 left. Brookland reeled off the next nine points to take a 36-31 lead with 4:09 to go. Craft hit one of two free shots to make it 36-32 before Brookland scored the next four points to go up 40-31. Craft again hit one of two free throws and Mack drilled a three-ball around a Brookland basket to make the score 42-36 Lady Bearcats after three.
Brookland stretched the lead to 48-36 with three straight baskets to open up the final period. The teams traded baskets over the next minute with Edwards and Craft each scoring a basket for Harrisburg to make the score 52-40 with 3:22 left in the game. Harrisburg cut the lead to 53-44 with Mack scoring inside and Edwards going coast to coast for a layup with 1:42 left. The Lady Bearcats put the game away scoring the next eight points to go up 61-44 with 39 seconds left. Edwards finished out the scoring for Harrisburg with a free throw and a baseline jumper to set the final at 61-47.
Craft led the Lady Hornets with 16 points. Riddle finished with 14 and Edwards 11 for Harrisburg.
