Williams to Speak at ASUN's Jonesboro and Marked Tree Locations

As part of ASU-Newport's Black History Month observances, Dr. Lonnie Williams will speak on his book, Remembrances in Black: Personal Perspectives of the African-American Experience at the University of Arkansas 1940s-2000s. Williams will speak on ASUN's Marked Tree campus Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 11:30 a.m., and on ASUN's Jonesboro campus Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 12:30 p.m.

Williams is the recipient of many distinguishing awards, including the Silas Hunt Legacy Award presented by the University of Arkansas to individuals who have made a significant impact on the University of Arkansas, the state of Arkansas, the nation and the world; the Mossie J. Richmond Jr. Outstanding Leadership Award presented by the Arkansas College Personnel Association for outstanding contributions to ArCPA and Student Affairs and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Individual Achievement Award presented by the Northwest Arkansas Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Planning Committee.

In addition to his numerous awards and achievements, Dr. Williams has served on a variety of national and state conference panels and workshops including the John D. O'Bryant National Think Tank for Black Professionals in Higher Education Summit Meeting at the 17th National Conference on Race & Ethnicity in Miami Beach, Fla.; the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc. 32nd national Genealogy Conference in Little Rock and the Arkansas Counseling Association's Annual Conference in Hot Springs.

Dr. Williams is also a partner in Diversified Publishing, LLC, publisher of the award winning African-American Perspectives magazine of northwest Arkansas. He currently serves as Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs for Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.

ASU-Newport's Marked Tree campus is located at 33500 Hwy 63 in Marked Tree, and the Jonesboro campus is located at 5504 Krueger Drive in Jonesboro.
