Lady Indians fall short in regional semis

Marked Tree got 35 points from Jay Perry but just couldn't get enough stops on defense as Cedar Ridge handed the Lady Indians a 65-58 loss in the semi-finals of the 2A North Regional tournament being held in Pangburn.

Jay Perry opened the scoring with a three-pointer from the right wing before Cedar Ridge got a conventional three-point play followed by a three-ball to go up 6-3. Lexi Perry scored back to back buckets but the Lady Timberwolves got back to back three-pointers to extend their lead to 12-7. Jay Perry scored back to back baskets around a Cedar Ridge score to make it 14-11 Lady Timberwolves with 2:49 left. Lexi Perry hit one of two free throws and Cedar Ridge got a basket to make it 16-12. Lexi Perry scored inside for Marked Tree only to see the Lady Timberwolves hit a three and and a free throw to make it 20-14 Cedar Ridge after one.

Cedar Ridge opened the second quarter with an 8-2 run to go up 28-16. Jay Perry had Marked Tree's score during the run. Dez Reel hit two free throws and Tullia Tull hit one of two to cut the lead to 28-19 before Cedar Ridge got a three-pointer and a basket inside to make it 33-19 with 2:25 left before halftime. Jay Perry hit two free throws before Cedar Ridge got a basket down low and a three-pointer to make it 38-21. Jay Perry converted an old-fashioned three-pointer to make it 38-24 Cedar Ridge at the half.

Lexi Perry grabbed the rebound of her own miss and scored to open the third quarter to make it 38-26. Jay Perry and Reel scored back to back buckets after a Cedar Ridge score to make it 40-30 Cedar Ridge. Cedar Ridge hit two free throws followed by a three-pointer before Lexi Perry and Jay Perry scored back to back to make 45-34 Lady Timberwolves. Cedar Ridge got a free throw followed by back to back scores from Jay Perry to make it 46-38 Cedar Ridge with 1:14 left. Tull hit a jumper and Jay Perry had a steal and basket for the Lady Indians to make the score 46-42 before Cedar Ridge got a basket with four seconds left to make it 48-42 after three.

Jay Perry went coast to coast for a score and Lexi Perry converted a conventional three-point play to open the final quarter and make it 48-47 Lady Timberwolves. Cedar Ridge hit four straight free throws, Jay Perry scored inside for Marked Tree and Cedar Ridge hit four more free shots to make the score 56-49 with 5:14 left to play. Jay Perry scored off an offensive rebound and hit two free throws around a Lady Timberwolves score making it 58-53 Cedar Ridge. Lexi Perry made it 60-55 with a basket off an offensive rebound before Cedar Ridge added four free throws to make it 64-55. Jay Perry's three made it 64-58 and Cedar Ridge's free throw last set the final at 65-58 Cedar Ridge.

"First half we got behind, they (Cedar Ridge) shot the ball very well," Marked Tree head coach Derik Drewett said. "We made a run in the second half but you got to play well both halves to have a chance to win," Drewett added.

Lexi Perry added 16 points for the Lady Indians.
