Lady Wildcats fall in non-conference contest

Trumann stayed close for five innings but a 15 run sixth inning spelled doom as the Nettleton Lady Raiders posted a 26-6 win over Trumann last Thursday in Trumann.

Trumann got on the board first when Makayla Hicks reached on an infield single. Hicks scored on a double from Hannah Wood to make it 1-0 Trumann. Nettleton sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the second scoring six runs to go up 6-1.

Trumann tied the game up in the bottom of the third scoring five runs on seven hits. Hicks and Megan McGowan started the inning with back to back singles. Wood drove in Hicks with a double to make it 6-2. Kierra Corter scored McGowan with a single and Jasmine Poole singled to bring in Wood and Corter making it 6-4. Haven Taylor singled driving in Chelsea Baine and Poole to make it 6-6. Nettleton scored a run in the top of fourth to go up 7-6. Trumann's leadoff batter got to second before being stranded to make the score 7-6 Lady Raiders after four.

Nettleton scored four runs in the top of the fifth before adding 15 runs in the top of the sixth to set the final score at 26-6 Nettleton.

McGowan took the loss for Trumann pitching five innings giving up 22 runs on 16 hits with five walks and three strikeouts. Neely Blagg pitched one inning allowing four runs on three hits. She walked one and struck out one. Both pitchers hit a batter.

Hicks finished with three hits and two runs scored on the day with Wood collecting two hits, scoring a run and driving in two runners. McGowan and Hollie Russell each had two hits on the day and Taylor added two RBIs.
