Lepanto Council reinstates police chief
Over 60 people packed the Lepanto courtroom for a special council meeting Tuesday night called to discuss personnel at the police department after Police Chief Chad Henderson was demoted on Friday, May 9.
Without discussing specifics, the council went into executive session immediately when the meeting began at 7 p.m. "This is a personnel issue," Mayor Jernigan said. "Therefore, there will be no audience participation. We'll go into executive session."
Three people were called to go before the council during the closed session: Chad Henderson at about 7:30 p.m., David Layman at 8:30 p.m., and Daniel Haynes around 9:20 p.m. The executive session ended at 10:15 p.m.
The council voted 6-0 to reinstate Chad Henderson as police chief effective immediately and adjourned.
Most of the citizens present seemed pleased with the decision. "I'm glad the town stepped up and supported me," Henderson said.
