Dr. Gregory Sheets
TRUMANN - Dr. Gregory Lynn Sheets passed away at his residence in Trumann September 1, 2014 at the age of 59. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and lived in several U.S, states and Germany before his father retired from the U.S. Army and the family returned to Arkansas.
After graduating from Trumann High School in 1972, Greg earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in Sociology at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. In 1986, he completed his Ph.D. in Sociology at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was a Teaching/Research Associate at Oklahoma State University; an instructor at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri; a tenured Associate Professor at North Georgia College in Dahlonega, Georgia; and, Director for the 21st Century Communities Learning Centers program at Trumann School District.
He is survived by his wife, Karleen Bradsher Sheets of Trumann; his daughter, Logan Leigh Sheets of Colorado Springs, Col.; his sister, Diane Costello of Copperas Cove, Tex.; and his brother, Scott Sheets of Athens, Ala. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Richard Sheets and Ygenia McDonald Sheets of Trumann and his sister, Carol Breitzke of Baraboo, Wisc.
A private graveside service was held September 5 at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
