County football highlights from opening week play
Aaron Scales scored with 3.2 seconds giving EPC a 36-32 win at McCrory. Scales passed for 309 yards and two scores while rushing for 42 yards and two scores. Kyler Gordon finished with 84 yards rushing and had a touchdown catch. Quinn Young finished with 122 yards receiving and a touchdown as Clay Malone had 101 yards receiving. Austin Coffman and Chanc Gray led the defense with 10 tackles each.
Harrisburg fell to Cross County 55-16 this past Friday night. Connor Haag passed for 101 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 51 yards on the night. Dillon Russell had 55 yards receiving as Malik Versie also had 55 yards receiving and a touchdown to go along with a 70 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Russell and Joey McGill each had a two-point conversion.
Hoxie claimed a 42-6 win over the Trumann Wildcats this past Friday in Hoxie. Justin Liles led the Wildcats offense as he passed for 38 yards and added 35 yards rushing. Grayson Dye led the team in rushing with 61 yards and a touchdown. Kevonte Andrews had six and a half tackles to lead the defense with Alex Santos adding an interception.
Cade Gartman rushed for 67 yards with a touchdown and two-point conversion to lead the Trumann Junior Wildcats to a 22-20 opening season win over Hoxie last Thursday in Trumann. Koltan Jones added 53 yards rushing with a touchdown and two-point conversion as Preston Heavener chipped in 48 yards rushing and a touchdown. Gartman and Heavener each had five tackles on the defense.
The EPC Junior Warriors lost a heart breaker at Bald Knob as the home team scored a touchdown with six seconds left to claim a 6-0 last Thursday.
