Tuesday, October 7, 2014

Four of the six candidates running for Trumann mayor have confirmed they will participate in the Mayoral Q and A Forum being hosted by the Poinsett County Democrat Tribune on Oct. 7.

Current Trumann Mayor Sheila Walters, Gary Hill, Barbara Lewallen, and Ken Stockton have all agreed to participate in the forum.

Mayor Walters is currently finishing up her second term as mayor. Hill is currently minister at Vive Drive Church of Christ and spent the last 40 years traveling as a minister all over the country and overseas after joining the Marine Corps. Lewallen is a former teacher and real estate broker who currently serves as part-time director of the Trumann Chamber of Commerce where she has secured grants for the city's detention pond and the Sims-Talbot Adult Education/Workforce Development Center. Stockton is a retired insurance agent with Farm Bureau Insurance who is currently an active businessman in real estate.

The Q and A Forum will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Community House on Tuesday, Oct. 7. Candidates will be asked questions by a moderator. No questions will be taken directly from the audience during the forum, though many of the questions to be asked were submitted by community members in the past weeks. Each candidate will have two minutes to answer each question, and the order of who answers first will rotate, giving each candidate an opportunity to answer first. The event will last approximately one hour. The public is invited and encouraged to attend for the opportunity to get to know each candidate and hear their viewpoints on important issues regarding the city.
