Lady Wildcats hang on for conference win

After six lead changes and three ties in the second half, Trumann survived Loren's Craft three-point try at the buzzer to take a 47-45 hard fought win over Harrisburg in 4A-3 conference basketball action this past Friday in Trumann.

Keely Curtis opened the scoring with a jumper giving Harrisburg a 2-0 lead. Taelor Gartman canned a three-pointer for Trumann for a 3-2. Curtis and Sarah Osban scored back to back baskets for the Lady Hornets for a 6-3 lead. Gartman scored inside for Trumann to make it 6-5 before Keely Edwards got a steal and a layup and Craft drilled a three-pointer to give Harrisburg a 11-5 lead. Amber Kent and Hannah Wood made back to back baskets for Trumann to cut the lead to 11-9. Edwards netted a three-ball to push the Harrisburg lead to 14-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Edwards' steal and layup early in the second quarter made it 16-9 Harrisburg. Starlasia Simmons canned back to back three-pointers for Trumann to make it 16-15 before Gartman hit back to back jumpers to give the Lady Wildcats a 19-16 lead. The teams traded baskets over the next few possession to keep the game close. Craft hit a jumper for Harrisburg and Simmons hit a jumper for Trumann to make it 21-18 Lady Wildcats. Lady Hornet Meghan Scott and Lady Wildcat Deserae Harris traded jumpers making it 23-20 Trumann. Craft canned another three- ball to make 23-23 as the teams went to the half.

Edwards hit one of two free throws after being fouled to start the third quarter and Osban scored off an offensive rebound to give Harrisburg a 26-23 lead. Gartman scored inside for Trumann and Curtis hit a jumper for Harrisburg to make the score 28-25 Lady Hornets. Trumann's Gartman hit one of two free and got free for a layup to tie the game at 28. Simmons hit one of two free throws to put Trumann up 29-28 before Craft canned another three to put Harrisburg up 31-29. Simmons tied the game at 31 with two free throws for Trumann before Edwards got one of two free throws to fall for Harrisburg to make it 32-31 Lady Hornets. Simmons' three-ball gave Trumann a 34-32 lead only to see Emily Armstrong got coast to coast for a score to tie it at 34 after three quarters of play.

Wood hit a three-ball and scored off the fast break around a base line jumper from Harrisburg's Osban to make it 39-36 Trumann. Craft's jumper for Harrisburg made it 39-38 Lady Wildcats before Trumann got a basket from Kelcie Rolland off an offensive rebound and Gartman hit two free throws to make the score 43-38. Osban's baseline jumper for Harrisburg made it 43-40 Trumann before Rolland was good on one of two free throws making ti 44-40 Lady Wildcats. Osban got a basked for Harrisburg off an offensive rebound to make the score 44-42 Trumann. Rolland was good on two free throws pushing the Lady Wildcats' lead to 46-42. Edwards drilled a three for Harrisburg making the score 46-45 Trumann. Simmons was good on one of two free throws making it 47-45 before Craft's three-point shot was off at the buzzer giving the Lady Wildcats the win.

Gartman scored 16 points for Trumann to lead all scorers. Simmons chipped in 15 points for the Lady Wildcats.

Craft led three Lady Hornets in double figures with 13 points. Edwards finished with 12 points and Curtis had 10 for Harrisburg.

Harrisburg won the junior high contest 39-36 despite a 29 point effort from Trumann's Anna Waleszonia.
