Maxine Branch Rye

BLACK OAK -- Maxine Branch Rye, 85, of the Black Oak community went to be with the Lord Monday, Feb. 9, 2015.

She was born March 5, 1929, to Ernie and Armetha Branch. She and Johnny Rye were married Aug. 6, 1946. They owned Johnny Rye Grocery Store in Black Oak for 51 years. She was of the Christian faith and was a member of the Church of God in Marked Tree.

Mrs. Rye was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Rye, Sr.; her daughter, Leesa Rye Hatley; her parents; brothers Edward Branch, Avery Branch, W.R. Branch, and John Branch; and her sister, Valeen Seals.

She is survived by two sons, Johnny (Julie) Rye, Jr. and Randy (Brandy) Rye; one sister Mary Nell Branch; and two grandchildren, Dr. Robin (John) Rye Dabney and Scotty Rye.

Her biggest love was her family. She helped her husband Johnny in the grocery store along with her brother-in-law Chester Perkins, and Lawrence Peters for the entire existence of the grocery store, beginning in 1958 until the store closed in 2010.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Methodist church in Marked Tree. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Interment will be in the Marked Tree Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Terry Hatley, Drew Price, Kirk Dunn, Chris Smith, Mike Dabney and Bobby Cantrell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Shinabery, John Boxley, Jimmy Swift, Robert Duncan, Keith Steele, Jimmy Berry, Ronald Tacker, Ralph Tacker, Charlie Higgins, Herbert Allen, Bobby Austin and Harold Blackwood.
