Lady Yellowjackets claim district title
Bay's Katie Ferguson scored 18 points as the Lady Yellowjackets took home the 1A-3 East district title with a 39-33 win over Armorel this past Monday at Ridgefield Christian School.
Armorel scored first to go up 2-0 only to see Baylee Bowers score inside and Sydney Higgins can a three-pointer to give Bay the lead at 5-2, a lead they would not give up the rest of the night. Ferguson hit two free throws after an Armorel score and then added a three-pointer after another Lady Tigers' score to make it 10-6 Lady 'Jackets. Ferguson added two more free throws and Higgins was good on two free throws to make the score 14-9 at the end of one.
Higgins hit one of two free throws to start the second quarter and was followed by a three-ball from Ferguson to make it 18-9 Bay. Ferguson converted an old-school three-point play and Higgins scored inside to make it 23-15 Lady 'Jackets. Ferguson hit one of two free throws late to give Bay a 24-16 lead at the half.
Bowers hit two free throws early in the third quarter before Armorel reeled off six straight points to make the score 26-22 Bay. Bowers followed her missed shot grabbing the rebound and scoring and then hit one of two free throws to make it 29-22 Lady 'Jackets. Ferguson hit a jumper right before the buzzer to give Bay a 31-26 lead headed to the fourth quarter.
Bowers scored the next six points for Bay, all in the paint, to stretch Bay's lead to 37-28. The Lady Tigers cut it to 37-31 before Ferguson hit two free throws to make it 39-31. Armorel added a late basket to set the final score at 39-33 Bay.
Bowers added 13 points for Lady Yellowjackets as Higgins chipped in with eight points.
