Lady Wildcats down Walnut Ridge in non-conference play
Trumann (10-2, 8-2 4A-3) used a six run second inning to take a 7-1 lead on their way to a 16-6 win over Walnut Ridge last Thursday in high school softball action in Trumann.
The Lady Bobcats scored on an error in the top of the first inning to go up 1-0. Taelor Gartman reached on an error to start Trumann's half of the first inning. Maddi Payne reached on an infield single before Anna Waleszonia got on base via an error to load the bases. Hannah Wood plated Gartman with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-1. Payne later scored on an error by the catcher to give the Lady Wildcats a 2-1 lead. Trumann added five more runs in the bottom of the second inning as Kendall Pruitt walked and Makayla Hicks reached on an error to put two runners on. Payne singled to score Pruitt and Hick scored on an error to make it 4-1 Lady Wildcats. Waleszonia walked and Hannah Craig had an infield single to load the bases. Neely Blagg's fielder's choice scored Payne making it 5-1 before Olivia Greenwell doubled to drive in Waleszonia and courtesy runner Kiley Barnes and Blagg would scored on a passed ball to give Trumann an 8-1 lead.
The Lady Wildcats scored three more runs in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 11-1. Gartman reached on an error and move to second on a sacrifice bunt from Payne. Waleszonia walked before her and Gartman completed a double steal that scored Gartman from third. Wood doubled to score Waleszonia and Blagg's single brought in Wood to make it 11-1. Walnut Ridge made it 11-2 with a run in the top of the fourth inning only to see Trumann score four runs in the bottom half to make it 15-2 Lady Wildcats. Pruitt walked to start things off for Trumann and went to second on a sacrifice bunt from Hicks. Gartman reached on a fielder's choice as her and Pruitt were successful on another double steal that scored Pruitt to make it 12-2. Gartman scored on a passed ball to make the score 13-2 Lady Wildcats. Waleszonia drew a two out walk and scored when Wood doubled to make it 14-2 Trumann. Craig singled to bring in Wood making it 15-2 Lady Wildcats at the end of four.
The Lady Bobcats scored four runs in the top half to keep the game going making it 15-5 Trumann. Greenwell doubled to start the bottom of the fifth and came around to score on error give the Lady Wildcats a 16-6 lead ending the game via the run rule.
Craig got the win for Trumann as she pitched five innings giving up six runs on six hits. Craig walked two and stuck out six.
Wood led the offensive charge as she collected two hits, scored two runs and had three RBIs. Greenwell finished with two hits, a run scored and two RBIs, Blagg had a hit, a run scored and two RBIs and Payne had two hits, two runs scored and a RBI. Gartman and Waleszonia each scored three runs and stole two bases, Pruitt scored two runs and stole a base as Hicks and Barnes each scored a run.
