Eagles fall to Glen Sain Ford
Two bad innings spelled doom for the Poinsett County Eagles this past Tuesday in their gmae with Paragould Glen Sain Ford. Two errors in the first inning gave Paragould a 3-0 lead and five run seventh broke open a close game sending Glen Sain to a 9-2 win in game one of the double header.
Glen Sain used two hits and two errors to plate three runs and take a 3-0 lead in the top of hte first inning. The Eagles went three up three down in the bottom half of the inning. Paragould loaded the bases with two outs in the second inning before Jarred Carter induced a ground-out to get out of the inning. Dylan Qualls led off the Eagles' second inning with a hit before being forced out at second on a grounder from Jordan. Lucas Moye struck out before Austin Jackson reached on error putting runners on first and second. Hayden Allen struck out to end the inning keeping the score 3-0 Paragould.
Carter retired the Paragould side in order in the third inning. John Dunman walked to start off the Eagles' inning. Cade Gartman's sacrifice bunt moved Dunman to second. Dunman was picked off second before Garrett Woods reached on an error and stole second to get in scoring position. Hayden Malone was hit by a pitch putting two runners on only to see Qualls ground out ending the inning with the score still 3-0 Glen Sain. The fourth inning was pretty quiet with each team getting a runner as Jackson drew a walk for the Eagles.
Carter again retired the Paragould side in order in the top of the fifth inning. The Eagles got on the board in the bottom half as Gartman singled with one out and stole second base. Malone's two-out single plated Gartman to make it 3-1 Paragould. Chaz Simmons came on to pitch for the Eagles in the sixth inning and was greeted by a double from the lead off batter. The runner came around to score on an error to make it 4-1 Glen Sain. Poinsett County went three up three down in the bottom of the inning to keep the score 4-1 Paragould.
Glen Sain sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the seventh inning scoring five runs to push their lead to 9-1. The Eagles looked to rally as Allen led off with a single before Dunman was hit by a pitch. Gartman singled to load the bases follwed by a Woods' single that scored Allen to make it 9-2 Paragould. Malone and Qualls both flied out before Hindman's ground ball forced Gartman at third to end the game.
Gartman led the Eagles at the plate with two hits, a run scored and a stolen base. Woods had a hit, a RBI and stolen base, Malone had a hit and RBI, Allen had a hit and run scored and Qualls had a hit.
Carter took the loss for the Eagles as he pitched five innings givng up three runs on two hits. He walked one and hit three batters. Simmons pitched the final two innings giving up six runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
