Harrisburg teams advance in pee wee football playoffs
Harrisburg's fifth-grade and sixth-grade pee wee football teams won their games this past Saturday in the NEA YFL Youth Football League playoffs. Both Trumann teams lost ending their seasons.
The Trumann fifth-grade faced Osceola in the first round and got on the board first with a touchdown on a halfback pass from Parks McNair to Murphy Williams for an early 6-0 lead. Osceola scored the next 20 points to take a 20-6 win. Trumann ends their season with a 3-4 record.
The fifth-grade Harrisburg team got three touchdowns, two rushing and one on a fumble return, from Brylan Honeycutt to post an 18-0 win over Gosnell. Harrisburg (7-0) will play Wynne in one semi-final game Saturday at Marked Tree.
The Harrisburg 6th grade game came down to the last play as they stopped Hoxie inside the five-yard line to hold on for a 16-12 win. Luke Smith scored a touchdown and Jace Heeb added the two-point conversion to make it 8-6 Harrisburg. James Pender scored a touchdown late in the third quarter and also added the two-point conversion run to make it 16-12. Harrisburg (6-1) will play undefeated Osceola in one semi-final game Saturday in Marked Tree.
The sixth-grade Trumann team could not get their offense on track or find a way to stop the Newport offense as they fell 38-0 to end their season. They finished with a 2-5 record.
