Marked Tree Chamber plans tree lighting ceremony
Continuing a tradition started last year, the Marked Tree Chamber of Commerce made plans for this year's tree lighting ceremony.
The chamber is selling bulbs for $5 each in memory of or in honor of a loved one. The bulbs will be placed on the tree in the park at the northwest end of Frisco Street for a tree lighting ceremony. Afterward, the bulbs will be moved to a Christmas tree in city hall until New Year's.
Chamber members discussed changing the color of bulbs this year. Last year's bulbs were all red. Mary Smith suggested doing red, white, and blue bulbs to show support for France after the recent terrorist attacks there, and this was approved.
Order forms for bulbs are available from Pam Wright at Marked Tree City Hall or from Chamber President Sandy Teague at Caring Hearts Home Care. The deadline to get orders in is Dec. 8. The tree lighting ceremony will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10. Everyone is invited to attend, and all proceeds from the bulbs will go toward community projects to make Marked Tree a better place to live.
