TRUMANN - Beloved Arthur (Hoot) Wells passed away March 13, 2016, at the age of 85 at his residence on Old Payneway Lane in Trumann. Hoot was born July 15, 1930, in Etowah to Arthur Wells Sr. and Marie Wells. Hoot received his nickname from his Grandfather in honor of his favorite actor Hoot Gibson. After his father's death, at age 16 he helped raise his younger siblings and run the family farm.
Hoot was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa, friend and community member. He was a renowned gunsmith, avid duck hunter and fisherman. He continued to farm the family farm until his retirement.
Hoot and Claudine were members of First Baptist Church of Marked Tree for over 34 years. Hoot was the custodian and Claudine secretary for many years.
Hoot is survived by his bride Claudine Wells of the home. His surviving children are Robert Wells of Walnut Ridge, Syble Aden of Livingston, Tenn., Michael Wells and wife Kim of Gosnell, Carole Wells of Nashville, Ind., Frances Cavenaugh and husband Don of Walnut Ridge, Larry Gillis and wife Sherry of Brunswick, Tenn., Judy Duvall and husband Paul of Springfield, Mo., Gregory Gillis and wife Beth of Bruce, Miss., and Robin Jones and husband Jim of Trumann.
His deceased children are Joann Wells, Patrick Wells, Patricia Wells and Billy Gillis.
Surviving siblings are Smokey Wells and wife Patsy of Foley, Ala., Alma Alinder of North Little Rock , Brad Wells and wife Wilma of Sun City Center, Fla., Loretta (Dinker) Gordon of Sulligent, Ala., John Wells and wife Vonda of Fredericksburg, OK, Carolyn Whitman and husband Barney of Trumann, Phil Wells and wife Genee of Long Beach, Cali., and Connie Kemtz of Trumann.
One deceased sister Kitty Maxwell and husband Herchell.
Hoot is survived by 22 Grandchildren, 33 Great-Grandchildren, and one Great-Great-Grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 12:30--2 p.m., Thursday, March 17, at First Baptist Church of Marked Tree (412 Liberty St.) followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m.
