Tyronza to apply for grant for fire department
The Tyronza City held a special meeting Tuesday to authorize the mayor to apply for a GIF Fire Protection grant.
The grant, which is offered through the Arkansas Rural Development Commission, would go toward a new building at the fire department to house the tanker truck. "The tanker truck has to be enclosed, and we're pressed for room," said Mayor Charles Glover.
Glover presented the council with an estimate of $33,394 for a Square Post Building. The 40x40 building would have a wooden structure constructed with treated wood, metal siding, and a metal roof. It would have two bays, would be the same color as the fire department building, but would not be attached. The new building would be put on a concrete slab that is already beside the fire department.
The Rural Services grant is for up to $50,000, though Glover said they will have a better chance of receiving the grant if they do not apply for the full $50,000. He said they were discussing the grant at a special meeting because he did not know about the grant before the last council meeting and time was of the essence.
The council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to apply for the grant.
