Junior Warriors fall at home to Salem

EPC (2-2, 2-1) lost 28-14 to Salem in junior high football conference action this past Thursday night at Warrior Field.

EPC's Preston Rains fell on the short kick-off from Salem to open the ball game giving EPC the ball first and 10 on their own 48-yard line. The Junior Greyhounds forced the Junior Warriors to punt on their first drive and stopped Hank Knapp short as he tucked the ball and ran trying to pick up the first down. Salem took over EPC 45-yard line with 4:17 left. After a one yard gain on the first play, Peyton Barker took the hand off and bounced outside before sprinting to the EPC 17-yard line. Salem drove to seven-yard line and looked to find the end zone on a seven yard sweep play only to see a block in the back negate the score. Barker again took a sweep play making it to one-yard line before Gavin Guiltner scored on the next play to make it 6-0 Salem. Tommy Perkins added the two-point conversion run to make it 8-0 Salem with 24 seconds left in the opening quarter. Salem again kicked the ball short as Gavin Constant fell on the ball at the EPC 41-yard line. Runs by Austin Baker and Knapp along with a personal foul on Salem moved the ball to the Junior Greyhounds 12-yard line as the quarter came to an end with Salem up 8-0.

EPC started the second quarter with the ball on the Salem 12-yard line. A pass interference call on Salem moved the ball to the three-yard line where Andrew Lung would score from a yard out to make it 8-6. A fumble on the two-point try left the score the same with 5:14 left. Levi Decker recovered the ensuing onside kick as the Salem 48-yard line. Salem moved the ball to the EPC 42-yard line where Guiltner hit Riley Gray over the middle for a touchdown pass to make the score 14-6 Junior Greyhound. Barker was stopped about a yard short on the two-point try after a great effort to score. Salem touched the ball before it went 10 yards on the kick-off giving EPC the ball on Salem 47-yard line with 3:57 left before the half. The Junior Warriors moved the ball to the 39-yard line before Austin Baker took a hand-off and hit the right sideline going 39 yards for the score. Rains ran in the two-point conversion to make it 14-14 with 2:27 left. Salem got the ball on their own 35-yard line after the EPC kick-off went out of bounds. The Junior Greyhound's game ground moved the ball to the Junior Warriors' two-yard line before Barker score on a one-yard run with 16 seconds left. Guiltner hit Trent Morris on the two-point pass play to make the score 22-14 Salem. Deuce Moore fell on the Salem kick-off at the EPC 47-yard line with 13 seconds left before the Junior Warriors ran the clock out ending the first half with Salem up 22-14.
