Junior Lady 'Jackets fall in tourney opener

Bay had the task of facing undefeated Marmaduke in the opening round of the Bay Junior High Invitational this past Wednesday in Bay. The Junior Lady 'Jackets played a close first half before the Junior Lady Greyhounds went on to a 47-19 win.

Bay took a 1-0 lead when Olivia Ferguson hit one of two free throws before Marmaduke got a basket inside to go up 2-1. Bailee Kirby hit two free throws for Bay to make it 3-2 only to see the Junior Lady Greyhounds hit a three-ball followed by a jumper to take a 7-3 lead with 1:40 left. Destiny Bogard canned a three-pointer with 20 seconds left to make the score 7-6 Marmaduke after one.

The Junior Lady Greyhounds canned a three-ball to open the second quarter scoring to make it 10-6 Marmaduke before Ferguson scored inside for Bay making the score 10-8. Marmaduke scored three straight baskets to increase their lead to 16-8 with 1:50 left. Kirby hit one of two free throws for Bay making the score 16-9 before the Junior Lady Greyhounds hit a jumper and the Junior Lady 'Jackets got a conventional three-point play from Ferguson to make it 18-12 Marmaduke at the half.
