Junior Lady Wildcats advance in Bay tournament

Trumann jumped out to a 12-0 lead after the first quarter of play on their way to a 41-17 win over Cross County in their opening round game in the Bay Junior High Invitational Tournament with past Wednesday.

Hannah McClaughlin opened the scoring for Trumann with a basket inside before Haley Mathis and Kayla Spence added baskets in the paint to make the score 6-0 Junior Lady Wildcats with 1:54 left. Trumann got three straight steals and layups from McClaughlin, Caroline Morgan and Heavenly Lofton to make the score 12-0 after the first quarter.

Mycha Wilson hit one of two free throws for Trumann to start the scoring in the second quarter before Spence scored off an offensive rebound to make it 15-0 Junior Lady Wildcats. Lofton hit back to back three-pointers and Spence scored again off an offensive rebound making the score 23-0 Trumann with 4:08 left. Mathis scored inside, Morgan got a steal and layup and Mathis added a jumper in the lane to push the score to 29-0 Trumann. Cross County got on the board with a basket inside with 37 seconds left to make it 29-2 before Lofton hit two of three free throws after being fouled attempting a three-pointer to make the score 31-2 Junior Lady Wildcats at the half.
