Junior Wildcats take win over Hoxie
Trumann and Hoxie traded scores for most of the first quarter until Trumann took the lead for good with just over two minutes left in the quarter and never trailed again on their way to a 48-38 win in junior high basketball action this past Monday.
Azani Smith hit one of two free throws for Trumann to open the scoring make it 1-0 Junior Wildcats. Hoxie hit one of two free throws and followed with a jumper to make the score 3-1 Junior Mustangs. Chris Webb canned a three-pointer from the left wing for Trumann before Hoxie scored inside to make it 5-4 Junior Mustangs with 2:46 left. Webb canned his second three-pointer from the left wing to make it 7-4 Trumann. Azani Smith and Kevin Blagg hit back to back jumpers for the Junior Wildcats before Hoxie's jumper made it 11-4 Trumann. Blagg netted a three-pointer from the left wing late in the quarter to make it 14-7 Trumann after one.
The Junior Mustangs scored inside to open the second quarter only to see Seth Smith drill a three-pointer followed by a jumper from Blagg to give Trumann a 19-9 lead. Hoxie scored inside before hit one of two free throws on back to back trips to the foul line to make the score 19-13 with 3:16 left. Jonah Haynie scored off the fast break for the Junior Wildcats, Hoxie again hit one of two free throws on back to back trips before adding a basket inside making it 21-17 Junior Wildcats. Trumann ended the quarter on a 8-0 run as Blagg and Connor McClain canned back to back three-pointers with Blagg getting a steal and lay up to make the score 29-17 Trumann at the half.
