Lady 'Jackets ousted in tourney opener
Bay did not get a chance to defend their title from last year as the Lady Yellowjackets lost a 38-37 nail-biter to Marmaduke this past Friday at the 58th annual Williams Baptist College tournament held in Walnut Ridge.
Mallory Hartley got Bay on the board with a basket off an offensive rebound as Marmaduke canned a three-ball to make it 3-2 Lady Greyhounds. Whitlee Layne scored inside before adding two free throws to give Bay a 6-3 lead. Marmaduke canned another three-ball to tie the game at six only to see Layne and Shelby Corn drill back to back three-pointers to make the score 12-6 Lady 'Jacket with just under a minute left. Marmaduke hit four of five free throws to make the score 12-10 Bay after one.
Marmaduke opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run to take a 18-10 lead before Abby Frisby netted a three-pointer for Bay making the score 18-15 Lady Greyhounds. Layne hit three of four free throws on back to back trips to the line to make the score 18-18 with 2:37 left. Marmaduke hit a free throw with 45 seconds to take a 19-18 lead at the half.
