Fourth quarter comeback sends Bay to victory
Bay (11-8) used a 19-8 fourth quarter to erase a five point deficit as they beat Marked Tree (6-4) 56-50 in basketball action this past Friday in Bay.
Taylor Layne hit a three-pointer for Bay to open the scoring as Nolan Smith added two free throws for the Yellowjackets to give Bay an early 5-0 lead. Markel Perry-Washington stuck back an offensive rebound for Marked Tree to make it 5-2 Bay. Dustin Utley scored inside for Bay and followed with a three-pointer as Nick Andrews scored off an offensive rebound for Marked Tree to make it 10-4 Yellowjackets. Smith scored inside for Bay, Shy Anderson hit one of two free throws for Marked Tree a Julian Booker hit a jumper for the Indians before Utley got a stick back basket to make the score 14-7 Bay. Marked Tree scored the next seven points as Perry-Washington had a put back basket, Tray Brown netted a three-pointer and Andrews hit two free throws to tie the game at 14 with 2:42 left. Layne canned a three-pointer for Bay, Colby Malone had a tip-in for Marked Tree and Layne added two free throws for the Yellowjackets to give Bay a 19-16 lead after one.
Utley opened the second quarter with an inside basket for Bay as Perry-Washington got a steal and lay-up for Marked Tree making the score 21-18 Bay. Smith hit a three-pointer for the 'Jackets only to see Marked Tree get a jumper from Andrews and a fast break lay-up from Malone to make the score 24-22 Bay. Layne hit three free throws for Bay after being fouled on a three-point attempt as Marked Tree got back to back scores from Perry-Washington and Paul Coleman making it 27-26 Yellowjackets with 2:53 left. Dax Gibson scored inside for Bay, Coleman scored in the paint for the Indians and Slade Grove put back an offensive rebound right before the buzzer to make the score 31-28 Bay at the half.
