Indians roll over Rector in NEA Invitational Tournament

Marked Tree (7-6) took the early lead and never looked as they downed Rector (3-9) 77-43 in the opening round of Division I boys' play this past Monday in Jonesboro.

Kirk Beshears got the Cougars on the board first with a basket inside as Marked Tree got a three-pointer and fast break lay-up from Colby Malone and a stick basket from Nick Andrews to make the score 7-2 Indians. Cody Ails drilled a three-pointer for Rector, Tray Brown answered with a three-pointer for Marked Tree, Easton Tracy scored inside for the Cougars as Tray Brown netted another three-pointer and added a lay-up off the fast break to make the score 17-7 Indians with 3:26 left. Colby Malone scored of the break for Marked Tree before connecting on back to back three-pointers to push the Indians' lead to 23-7. Ails made a three-pointer from the left wing for Rector as Malone scored off the fast break for Marked Tree right before the buzzer making the score 25-10 Indians after one.

Paul Coleman scored off the fast break for Marked Tree to open the second quarter as Ails canned a three-pointer for Rector to make the score 27-13 Indians. Tray Brown connected on a three-ball for Marked Tree followed by a lay-up off the break from Julian Booker before Max Ford canned a three-pointer from the top of the key for Rector making the score 32-16 Marked Tree with 3:30 left. Markel Perry-Washington hit one of two free throws for the Indians as Malone got a basket inside for the Indians to push their lead to 35-16. Tracy knocked down a three-pointer for Rector before AJ Johnson scored inside for Marked Tree and Malone drilled another three-pointer for the Indians to make the score 40-19 Marked Tree. Conly Lockhart hit one of two free throws for the Cougars with just under a minute left making the score 40-20 Indians at the half.
