Lady Wildcats fall to Batesville in NEA Invitational quarter-finals

Trumann (4-8) stayed close with Batesville for the first quarter but a four point output in the second quarter spelled doom for the Lady Wildcats at the Lady Pioneers went on to post a 57-23 win over the Lady Wildcats in quarter-final play during Division II bracket play in the NEA Invitational Tournament being held at the Convocation Center.

Zaria McGuire got Trumann on the board first with a stick back basket before Batesville scored the next seven points to take a 7-2 lead. Tay Smith hit two free throws for the Lady Wildcats as the Lady Pioneers hit one of two free throws to make the score 8-4 Batesville. Clementine Collins and McGuire each hit two free throws to tie the game at 8 with 3:03 left. Batesville hit one of two free throws, added one of two free throws after a technical foul on Trumann and then scored back to back baskets inside to make it 14-8 Lady Pioneers. McGuire hit one of two free throws for Trumann to make the score 14-9 at the end of one.

Batesville opened the quarter with back to back scores before Smith hit one of two free throws for the Lady Wildcats to make the score 18-10 Batesville. The Lady Pioneers scored the next five points as Smith hit one of two free throws to make it 23-11 Batesville. The Lady Pioneers hit one of two free throws, Smith hit one of two free throws as Batesville scored inside and connected on a three-point play to make the score 29-12 Lady Pioneers. Lexi Jackson hit one of two free throws for the Lady Wildcats only to see Batesville end the quarter on a 12-0 run to take a 41-13 lead at the half.
