Lady Yellowjackets upset by Riverside in NEA semi-finals

Bay couldn't get the stops they needed in the second half as the Riverside Lady Rebels upset the top-seeded Lady Yellowjackets 44-39 last Thursday in the girls' Division I NEA Invitational Tournament in Jonesboro.

Bay jumped out a 5-0 lead at Sydney Higgins scored inside and Abby Frisby netted a three-pointer before Riverside scored inside to make it 5-2. Mallory Hartley hit a jumper in the lane as the Lady Rebels canned a three-pointer making the score 7-5 Lady 'Jackets. Whitlee Layne scored back to back baskets to make it 11-5 Bay with 3:06 left only to see Riverside close the quarter on a 7-0 run to make a 12-11 lead after one.

Tot Diaz drilled a three-pointer for Bay to open the second quarter to give the Lady 'Jackets a 14-12 lead only to see Riverside score the next eight points to go up 20-14, a lead they would not give up the rest of the game. Sarah Blackman hit two free throws as the Lady Rebels also hit two free throws to make the score 22-16 Riverside with 3:03 left in the half. Frisby scored inside for Bay as Riverside hit two free throws to make the score 24-18 at the half.
