Lady Hornets cruise to opening round Kell Classic win
The Harrisburg Lady Hornets (8-6) had two players score in double digits as they beat Bradford 55-22 in opening round play of the Kell Classic in Swifton this past Saturday.
Keely Curtis hit one of two free throws as Cassie Armstrong canned a three-pointer to give the Lady Hornets the early 4-0 lead. Bradford scored inside to make it 4-2 before Harrisburg scored the last 10 points of the quarter. Jessica Webb hit one of two free throws, Emily Armstrong hit one of two free throws as Webb added a jumper to make it 8-2 with 1:14 left. Cassie Armstrong converted an old-school three-point before Emily Armstrong drilled a three-pointer from the left wing to make the score 14-2 Harrisburg at the end of one.
Abby Edwards scored off the break for Harrisburg to start the second quarter and then hit one of two free throws after being fouled to make it 17-3 Lady Hornets. The Lady Eagles stuck back an offensive rebound only to see Harrisburg get two free throws from Cassie Armstrong and a fast break lay-up from Edwards to make the score 21-4 Lady Hornets. Bradford hit a jumper in the lane, Cassie Armstrong hit two free throws for Harrisburg as Edwards made back to back lay-ups to push the Lady Hornets' lead to 27-6 with 3:14 left in the half. The Lady Eagles netted a jumper, Ansley Wixson hit two free throws for Harrisburg, Bradford scored down low and Wixson canned a three-pointer from the top of the key at the buzzer to give the Lady Hornets a 32-10 halftime lead.
