Wildcats lose overtime thriller to Marmaduke in Kell quarter-finals
Four quarters wasn't enough to decide a winner as Trumann (4-8) and Marmaduke had to go overtime to find a winner in quarter-final play at the Kell Classic in Swifton this past Thursday. The Greyhounds outscored Trumann 6-1 in overtime to take a 76-71 win over the Wildcats.
Trumann jumped out to a 7-0 lead as Ben Turner hit a jumper, Alex Moses put back an offensive rebound before hitting one of two free throws and Turner went coast to coast for a lay-up. Marmaduke scored inside, Kelon Booker answered with an inside basket for Trumann, Marmaduke got a basket in the paint as Aaron Hamilton hit one of two free throws for the Wildcats to make it 10-4 Trumann. Turner hit one of two free throws for Trumann, the Greyhounds scored back to back baskets only to see Trumann get back to back scores from Turner and Moses to make the score 15-8 Wildcats with 2:40 left. Marmaduke got a basket down low, Jacob Ferguson scored inside for Trumann as Cody Roland hit a jumper for he Wildcats to make the score 19-10 Trumann. Turner hit two free throws for the Wildcats and Marmaduke hit two free throws to make the score 21-12 Wildcats at the end of one.
Trumann extended their lead early in the second quarter as Ferguson scored inside an MJ Barnes hit one of two free throws to make 24-12 before Marmaduke scored the next seven points cut the lead to 24-19. Hamilton hit two free throws for Trumann as Turner scored inside for the Wildcats as Marmaduke converted an old-school three-point play to make the score 28-22 with 2:02 left. Turner hit one of two free throws for the Wildcats, Marmaduke connected on a jumper before Booker converted an old-fashioned three-point play for Trumann to make the score 32-24 Trumann. The Greyhounds got an inside basket and a three-pointer in the last 30 seconds of the half make the score 32-29 Trumann.
