Lady 'Jackets pick up road win over EPC

Bay (20-7) used a tough pressure defense in the second half to pull away from EPC (4-15) for a 55-34 win in girls' high school basketball action this past Thursday in Lepanto.

Bre Ward hit one of two free throws for EPC for an early 1-0 lead as Abby Frisby hit a three-pointer for Bay to make 3-1. Sarah Blackman had a stick back basket for Bay before Madison Wiggins drilled a three-pointer for EPC to make the score 5-4 Lady Yellowjackets with 4:16 left. Whitlee Layne hit a jumper for Bay, Becca Bishop hit one of two free throws for EPC, Frisby hit another three-ball for the Lady Yellowjackets as Kaylee Crain scored inside for Bay to make it 12-5 Lady 'Jackets. Bre Ward put back an offensive rebound and was fouled. Before she attempted the free throws, Bay's coach was whistled for a technical foul and a few seconds later was issued his second technical causing him to be ejected from the game. Ward hit her foul shot as Bishop hit both technical free throws making the score 12-10 Bay. Bishop hit a jumper for EPC to tie the game only to see Blackman hit a jumper for Bay to put the Lady Yellowjackets up 14-12. Bre Ward was fouled attempting a three-pointer at the buzzer before stepping to the line and netting all three free throws to make the score 15-14 EPC after one.

Mallory Hartley hit one of two free throws for Bay to open the scoring in the second quarter before Wiggins drilled another three-pointer for EPC to make the score 18-15 Lady Warriors. Layne netted a trey for the Lady 'Jackets, Bre Ward hit a jumper in the lane for EPC only to see Layne hit one of two free throws on back to back trips to the line followed by a steal and lay-up for the Lady 'Jackets to make the score 22-20 with 4:21 left. Bishop hit one of two free throws for the Lady Warriors as Bay got a basket in the paint form Hartley, one of two free throws from Frisby and a fast break lay-up from Layne to make it 27-21 Lady Yellowjackets. Bishop hit a runner in the lane for EPC as Layne stuck back an offensive with 18 seconds left for Bay to make the score 29-23 Lady Yellowjackets at the half.
