Lady Yellowjackets swarm Marked Tree

Bay (22-7) led from start to finish on their way to a 65-25 win over Marked Tree (6-14) in girls' high school basketball action this past Friday in Marked Tree.

Bay jumped out a 5-0 lead as Whitlee Layne drilled a three-pointer and followed with a coast to coast lay-up before CJ Barnes got the Lady Indians on the board with a basket inside to make it 5-2. Sydney Higgins put back an offensive rebound for Bay as Abby Frisby hit a three-pointer for the Lady Yellowjackets making it 10-2 Bay. CJ Barnes scored back to back baskets for Marked Tree, Layne hit a jumper in the lane for Bay with CJ Barnes scoring inside for the Lady Indians making the score 12-8 Lady Yellowjackets with 3:02 left. Bay scored the next 10 points as Mallory Hartley hit a jumper, Layne scored off the fast break, Frisby and Layne both hit two free throws and Sarah Blackman scored inside to make it 22-8 Bay. Shi-Nez Mitchell hit one of two free throws for Marked Tree before Hartley canned a three-pointer for Bay to make it 25-9 Lady Yellowjackets after one.

Bay scored the first 11 points of the second quarter to push their lead to 36-9. Hartley hit one of two free throws, Layne hit two technical free throws, Higgins scored inside, Hartley got a steal and lay-up, Blackman scored off the break as Hartley added two free throws. Tullia Tull hit two free throws for Marked Tree, Layne canned a three-pointer for Bay as Hartley hit a baseline jumper for the Lady Yellowjackets to make it 41-11with less than a minute left. Brandice Nesby hit one of two free throws for the Lady Indians before Hartley hit a jumper in the lane for Bay to make it 43-12 Lady Yellowjackets at the half.
