Wildcats hold on for thrilling victory over Gosnell
Trumann (6-18) almost let a 11 point fourth quarter lead slip away as they held on to upset Gosnell 60-58 in opening round action of the 4A-3 senior boys' district tournament in Pocahontas.
Alex Moses got the Wildcats on the board first with a basket inside as the Pirates answered with basket to make it 2-2. MJ Barnes got inside for a Trumann score, Gosnell scored back to back baskets before Barnes added a basket for the Wildcats to make it 6-6 with 4:13 left. The Pirates got a basket off the break, Ben Turner got a stick back for Trumann, Gosnell hit one of two free throws before Turner scored in the paint for the Wildcats to make the score 10-9 Trumann. Wildcat Kelon Booker got a fast break lay-up off a Turner steal, Gosnell netted one of two free throws, Booker hit one of two free throws for Trumann as the Pirates got a basket down low to make the score 13-12 after one.
Cody Roland scored back to back baskets for Trumann to start the second quarter before Gosnell scored inside to make it 17-14 Wildcats. Moses and Turner scored back to back baskets for Trumann, the Pirates scored inside as Barnes and Roland scored back to back for the Wildcats to make it 25-16 Trumann with 3:50 left. Gosnell got a score off the break before Jacob Ferguson drilled a three-pointer for the Wildcats to make it 28-18 Trumann. Gosnell hit one of two free throws, Turner put back an offensive rebound for the Wildcats, the Pirates were one good on one of two free throws and followed with a stick back basket to make it 30-22 Trumann. Roland canned a three-pointer for the Wildcats with 17 seconds left as Gosnell added two free throws to make the score 33-24 Trumann at the half.
