Wildcats fall to Westside in district semi-finals
Trumann (6-19) played a close first half with Westside trailing 22-17 at the half. The Wildcats couldn't find a way to stop the Warriors' offense in the second half as Westside handed Trumann a 59-40 loss this past Wednesday in the 4A-3 district tournament in Pocahontas.
Westside scored the first points of the game with a three-pointer as Alex Moses got inside for a Trumann score to make it 3-2 Warriors. Westside canned another three-ball before Kelon Booker netted a three-pointer for the Wildcats to make the score 6-5 Warriors. Westside hit two free throws, MJ Barnes scored down low for Trumann, Moses hit one of two free throws for the Wildcats as the Warriors scored off the fast break to make it 10-8 Westside with 2:08 left. Cody Roland drilled a three-pointer for Trumann, Westside made one of two free throws before Ben Turner got a steal and lay-up for the Wildcats to make it 13-11 Warriors at the end of one.
The Warriors got on the board first in the second quarter with an old-fashioned three-point play before Moses stuck back an offensive rebound for the Wildcats to make the score 16-13 Westside. The Warriors hit a three-pointer and had another old-fashioned three-point play before Booker scored inside for Trumann making it 20-17 Warriors with 2:30 left. Westside added a basket about a minute later to make the score 22-17 Westside at the half.
